Project: "YESS community"
How can Earth System Sciences promote change towards a more liveable future?
By enabling researchers to network globally right from the start of their career. For this purpose, the “YESS community” commissioned us to design and implement an online networking platform with social media functions at the time of foundation.

Earth system research – to marvel at
Since the “YESS community” was founded in 2010, public awareness of the necessity and urgency of change in the way we deal with our Earth system has grown significantly.
The young, interdisciplinary Earth system scientists were already aware of the explosive nature of the issue back then. And they realised that they could achieve more if they acted together in a coordinated manner. To promote this, they wanted to create their own independent, self-managed membership platform. It was primarily intended to help young people network and exchange ideas with each other.
The community is now firmly established internationally and has become indispensable for early career researchers in the earth system sciences. It enables young experts to work together on the development and communication of research and knowledge in order to “offer solutions for the benefit of society for a fairer and more sustainable future.”

More InformationIndependent technical basis for the development of a membership platform
Just as the idea of open access has its supporters in science, the same applies to open source in the software sector. One of the most successful open source stories is that of WordPress. It began in 2003 as open source software for weblogs. It quickly became a complete open source content management system (CMS), and WordPress is now used by over half of all websites with a known CMS. “Of the one million most visited websites, around a third use WordPress.” (Wikipedia)
When the founders and board members of the “YESS community” asked us for support with their project, the clear recommendation was to implement the planned independent network platform with a closed member area using WordPress. And the “YESS community” platform is still running on this system today. The original design has since been stripped back and the responsibilities have been taken over by international members. But the technical basis and the content of the lively network, which has grown over the past 13 years, have remained. And the community is busier and more productive than ever. Independent and self-managed. Just as researchers appreciate it.
And for us, too, self-hosted WordPress is still the first choice when it comes to web projects. No matter whether it’s a one-pager or an online community. – Get in touch if you need support with a website.
